Windows 8 has two very different types of installers. One installer is associated with the tile-based interface, and the other is associated with the Desktop.

When you install a program on your Desktop, you use the Windows Installer. The exact details for an installation vary from program to program, but usually the installation starts when you double-click the Setup.exe (executable) file. That file sometimes takes the program name.

You remove a legacy program using the Programs and Features control panel.

To install a program in the tile-based interface

1. Tap or click the Store tile.

2. Find the program you want to install, and tap or click its tile.

3. On the app’s description screen , click the Install button.
